Zoo School

For it being such a warm winter so far, it just figures that the days we have zoo school the weather has been not so good, either rainy, snowy, or like today super cold! The positive to a day like today is that the zoo is practically empty. I sat in a heated area while the wee ones went to their classes of course. We did try to do a little walking around after their classes. Even most of the animals were staying in out of the wind, except for a few;

We were especially excited to see the babies!

We didn't wander far for lack of time and bitter cold, but the wee ones had to find an animal statue to climb on before we headed out.

All in all despite the cold we had a great time!

But we were glad to make it home before the snow!

I really do love the zoo! not only is it an educational trip every time you go, it's also a very peaceful place! I'm looking so forward to spring to be able to make a long day out of one of our zoo school days!

366 Days of Pictures in 2012!-Day 41

I can't resist capturing shots like this! They are so much fun for me (and for the one being photographed)! We were leaving the zoo today and freezing on the way out. It was her little way of staying warm for the walk to the car.

366 Days of Pictures in 2012!-Day 40

Cattails are actually pretty amazing plants. not only are they pretty to look at, the way they sway in the wind, and glisten in the sunshine. They can also be an answer to clean water for many people in areas of the world where arsenic laden water is prevalent by filtering the arsenic out of the water in a very safe way!
A person named Jeremiah Jackson invented this filtration system after speaking to his brother about the arsenic problem in the drinking water in India and Bangladesh. When I read about this I just had to share how absolutely amazing this plant can be and how the ingenuity of people like you and I can change the world!

366 Days of Pictures in 2012!-Day 39

I know that I've shot the moon before this week, but I just couldn't resist! It was just so beautiful tonight...again! And opportunity presented itself while waiting for the girl to get out of AWANA this evening.

Playing around on photo shop I also tried my moon in black and white, which the girl said she liked better, so I posted both.

I'm not sure that this is an official full moon, the Full Moon Calendar says it was or should have been yesterday.

366 Days of Pictures in 2012!-Day 38

my little grandbaby wasn't really cooperating much today when I was trying to take her picture, but I did get a shot. It is so very different being a grandparent as opposed to a parent. The fun part being that I get to play with her and spoil her then send her back to mom, the hardest part being that I have to accept that my baby is all grown up. Her having a baby of her own means that to a certain extent, I have to let her go, that is very hard and definitely a bit sad, even a bit liberating. I've said all along that being a parent in general is a bit like being Sybil, I'm sure you've seen the movie starring Sally Field (although maybe not to the same degree). As a parent you wear many different hats. As a grand parent you don't need to wear nearly as many, that's weird! But I do love it! Almost as much as I love being a parent!

366 Days of Pictures in 2012!-Day 36 and 37

Sometimes Sundays can be hard for me to get on the computer, however I do normally have my camera attached to me at all times, so here is day 36 and 37!

Day 36

This little sumac plant probably doesn't know which way is up in this inexplicable weather that we're having. The morning started out frosty, then was swiftly replaced by a warm spring like Super Bowl Sunday!
Who did you want to win the big game??

Day 37

Today was a very long day! The boy had two friends spend the night after the Super Bowl, and his brothers were home from college, so the night was a very long one.
the boy still had obligations to meet, one of which was martial arts followed by wrestling. By the time he got home he was exhausted! Needless to say, he crashed very early tonight.
The girl had girl scouts this evening. She has decided that she doesn't want me to stay, so I took a drive and killed some time. While sitting in my car waiting I looked up to see the moon trying to hide behind the branches of a tree. It looked eerily pretty.
Tomorrow should be a more rested day than today proved to be!

366 Days of Pictures in 2012!-Day 35

What a sight for February here in our little part of the Midwest! The swans, geese, and ducks basking in the bright sunshine. Maybe they think it's spring, since it sure does feel like spring.

It looks like this sunny spring like weather should hold, at least until Wednesday!
