Books Books and More Books! What's your favorite book?

We love books! Books are a pretty big part of every day here in Casa chaos. Picture books, chapter books, fairy tales, short stories, audio books, you name it!
Currently we are reading The Lonely Mermaid and other Stories, which my daughter loves. We've even found corresponding songs on youtube to go with some of the stories.
We're also reading Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, this was a favorite of mine when I was little, I read it to the older kids when they were little, and am now reading it to the younger two. After we finish reading the book we'll watch the movie and do a compare and contrast conversation. We do that with most books we read if they have a television program or movie made from them. We also do that with books that have been re-done multiple times like Cinderella. It's very interesting to see what the kids think about the differences in the ways the stories were written, or the ways in which the stories were portrayed on the screen as opposed to the book.
My son is reading the first book in the Michigan Chillers series by Johnathan Rand. I will have to break down and read it too so I know what's going on in the books. He and a friend really enjoy reading those. Again I reiterate that I have not read one, however his friend's mom has read some of them and said that they aren't quite as dark as the R.L. Stine books.
My daughter is reading too many of the little first reader type books to list since she reads a new one a couple times a day.
Since we're in the car so often we really enjoy audio books. They're great! Currently we're listening to   Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix trying to finish up the Harry Potter series that we started in the spring. Here's a pretty fun interactive site for Harry Potter fans at Scholastic. And here's another link to activities and printables that correspond with the books as well at activityvillage.com.
We're also listening to Little House on the Prairie, another favorite of mine from my childhood and another one that I read to the older kids and am now enjoying listening to with the younger ones.
So that's what we're either reading or listening to right now. I think that literature is such a very important part of learning. We try to exposwe ourselves to as much as possible!
So what's your favorite book to read, or listen to?

Blog Hops

Tis the weekend! For us it will be filled with birthday parties, and family fun! My hubby of course plans to watch football! As a matter of fact the birthday party he is taking my son to is a tail gate college football game party! Super cool for them! I'm taking my daughter to a gymnastics party :)
I just wanted to take a minute though and talk about Blog Hops. I love them! I have "met" so many other people through Blog Hops that have introduced me to a plethora of information and ideas, as well as some just making me smile and brightening my day! Because I have started participating in more and more of them I wanted to share their hops with anyone else who wants to too. I'm dedicating a page in my blog to list some of my favorite hops so far. One day I may even host a hop myself, but for now, check out the page and hop on board!  http://cordialchaos.blogspot.com/p/blog-hops.html

Also, if you want to add your hop to the list, let me know and I'll add it to the page :)

Time is flying...

I can't believe that it's already November! Time is flying by so quickly! It seems like just yesterday we were officially starting our new school year and now we're planning Thanksgiving dinner. Just yesterday (figuratively speaking) the kids were in shorts and sun dresses and today we're cracking out the winter coats and turning up the heat!
So in the midst of my nostalgia, let's take a trip down memory lane; We've grown our own produce, picked peaches, berries, and apples. Made pies, cobblers, and crumbles (we haven't made jam yet). Experimented with different ways to juice veggies and make them taste yummy. Gone on many many field trips and nature walks. We've milked cows, dug for fossils, and hatched Triops with little success in keeping them alive. We've even managed to fit in some book work, music lessons, and sports!
We've fit a lot into the last couple of months! I don't really keep a planner per say, however I do live by my calendar. I try to keep track of the "school work" we do, but try not to stress about it, given the fact that our day's schedule can change at the drop of a hat.
As I sit here on my bed with my little girl cuddling next to me (she probably should be asleep, but she came in and wanted to cuddle) I have to smile to myself, this is my life, I wouldn't change it for the world, just maybe slow the time down if I could!

~Here's to embracing every moment :)
